Carey is a certified Master Naturalist and licensed guide in New York State, where he regularly leads interpretive hikes in the Catskill region and Central Park. He holds certifications with the National Association of Interpretation and the National Phenology Network, and earned his master’s degree in landscape ecology. As a filmmaker, he has been a frequent collaborator with director Terrence Malick, directed the documentary series Tibetan Stories, and recently published his first book of photography, The New Arcadians, which explores the formative experiences of summer camp. He is happiest when helping people connect and identify with nature in the immediate landscapes surrounding them.
