James is a native New Yorker who grew up hiking and camping with his family on Long Island and along the Hudson Valley. After attaining the rank of Eagle Scout in 2006, James continued to develop his outdoor skills as a climber, SCUBA diver, and wilderness guide. When James is not guiding a trip or running a workshop, he is working as a professional artist and studying natural history.
