Eastern Devil’s Path: Winter Edition
Saturday, February 22, 2025
Limited spots remaining
Looking for a winter challenge? Hike the eastern half of the infamous Devil’s Path! Known as one of the most challenging hiking trails in the Northeast, the Devil’s Path has steep, rugged ascents and equally difficult descents, slowing down the pace of even the most experienced hikers. Conquering the eastern half will require you to scramble up rocky trails covered with snow and ice and navigate steep descents. We’ll have crampons, microspikes, or snowshoes, as needed, to set you up for success! You will have access to a resupply and bail-out point, and our guides will be on trail to help throughout the day. You will be able to tackle this trail at your own speed, provided you are with at least one other participant or guide. There will be a cut-off time 9 miles into the hike, to make sure no one is hiking in the dark.
If you are feeling up for a really intense day, join us to hike the full Devil’s Path in a day in the summer of 2025.
On this trip we will summit Indian Head, Twin, Sugarloaf and Plateau mountains. These are required peaks for Catskill 3500 Club Membership.
Note: Must have prior tall-peak hiking experience in the Catskill Mountains or Adirondack Mountains before joining. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to info@adventureuntamed.com.

This hike has a little bit of everything: history, a fire tower, and lots of beautiful water features. At the very start of the day, we’ll hike by Sterling Lake, and your guide will share some local history throughout the day. We’ll see two more water features during our hike.
We’ll continue hiking on quiet woods roads, stopping to check out expansive views along the way. We’ll come across a fire tower for a bird’s-eye-view of the surrounding areas. One of the viewpoints will open up a view of Greenwood Lake – an expansive lake sitting right on the New York/New Jersey border.
If you have never been to Sterling Forest, this is a great hike that highlights what it has to offer. And if you hiked there before, you know what a great place it is to hike. Come explore a new hiking area!
Please note, due to a fire in November of 2024, this trail is currently closed as the area regenerates. We hope everything is open by the time of this hike. If it’s not, we’ll do a hike of a similar length and elevation on different trails in the nearby area.

WINTER CHALLENGE 2025! We are doing all four 3500 peaks that have to be climbed in winter to join the 3500. If you climb all four with us this winter, you will get our Winter Challenge patch! The four peaks are Panther, Slide, Balsam, and Blackhead. The four peaks are Panther, Slide, Balsam, and Blackhead.
We’ll hike through northern hardwood forests and cross streams on our ascent of Balsam Mountain. Some of these trails are relatively new. They were rerouted after Hurricane Irene in 2011. Once at the top, we’ll traverse Balsam’s long ridge and enjoy a beautiful viewpoint before reaching the summit. If we have time and the group is feeling up to the task, we will tag Eagle, another 3500 peak. This is an excellent adventure for hikers looking for a gentler introduction to the Catskill tall peaks.
This is a required peak for Catskill 3500 Club Membership and #26 Catskill Tall Peak (elevation 3,608′). This is one of the four peaks that must be climbed twice, at least once in winter (December 21 – March 21).

Want a Memorial Day weekend to remember? Come on a mountain adventure in the Adirondacks with us! And climb the tallest peak in New York State and an Adirondack 46er (peaks over 4,000 feet). We’ll ring in the unofficial start of summer with mountain climbing, games, and great company!
Get away from Memorial Day City crowds and join us on this beautiful adventure! Our journey will take us on a gorgeous hike of Mount Marcy. This mountain has a treeless summit with gorgeous, 360 views and a unique ecosystem of alpine tundra vegetation near the summit. For the first half of the day, it’s a steady, sometime steep climb, and it will feel anywhere between INTERMEDIATE and CHALLENGING, depending on your experience and conditions. But we plan to keep the pace very moderate, to allow for an enjoyable day. If you can do a Catskill 3500 mountain, you can do this trip! You will have to work for them, but the views at the top are absolutely fantastic and completely worth it! On a clear day, we will be able to see countless mountains in the High Peaks region.
When not hiking, we’ll spend our nights at the Adirondack Loj, relaxing and enjoying board games and great conversation.
Experience: Prior high peak (Catskill 3500’s or Adirondack 46ers) hiking experience strongly encouraged. Please contact us with any questions at info@adventureuntamed.com. We can help you put together a training plan! This trip is rated INTERMEDIATE due to easier pace, but it may feel more challenging depending on conditions and experience, as well as due to the longer mileage. This trip has CHALLENGING terrain and elevation gain.
Accommodations: Shared (with our group) loft room at ADK Loj. Limited private rooms available for an extra $150 per night. Please email us at info@adventureuntamed.com with questions and requests.
Food: We will have lunch on the road the first day and the last day. Other than that, all meals are included.
Note: Our Memorial Day trips tend to sell out. Sign up as early as you can to secure a spot!

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll start the summit attempt of Marcy. We’ll take our time on the trail and make consistent, steady progress, admiring above-treeline and summit views. That night, we’ll relax in front of the fire after a delicious dinner.
